More consumers are doing nothing after a data breach

Published: February 19, 2015 by Carrie Janot

The experience of being a victim of data breaches has created a shift in consumer behavior and attitude over the past year. A recent Ponemon Institute study found that more than one-third of consumers ignored data breach notification letters, taking no action to protect themselves against fraud.

To combat data breach fatigue, companies should communicate with customers sincerely and avoid treating the notification process as a compliance issue. Notification letters should include an apology, a clear explanation of what happened and why, and steps consumers can take to protect themselves from fraud.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source.
