Experian’s Relief Efforts in the Aftermath of Harvey

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the nation is waiting to assess the scope of the damage. While we still don’t know exactly how many people have been displaced from their homes, we know thousands of Texans need help, and will for months to come. In times like this, consumers and businesses are particularly vulnerable, both physically and financially. That’s why from the moment the storm hit, our team was already rolling up their sleeves to help with relief efforts. From generous employee contributions to offering free tools to help affected consumers monitor their finances, Experian is committed to helping the local communities in which we live and work, providing relief to those who need it most. 1. What contributions has Experian made to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey? Our Corporate Responsibility team set up a donation link right away for employees to make contributions to the South/Central Texas American Red Cross, providing critical aid to families. We were met with an overwhelming amount of generosity from our employees, and have already raised more than $90,000. Additionally, our offices in Texas have organized donation drives to provide basic necessities for those staying in shelters – including food, water, diapers, flashlights, batteries, hygiene items and clothing – while our Allen facility is currently holding a blood drive. 2. How are Experian’s products helping Harvey victims? In times of crisis, cases of credit card fraud and identity theft tend to spike, especially since many displaced people have left their check books or credit cards at home in the rush to evacuate. Missing mortgage and car payments are also common after a natural disaster, which can have a negative effect on consumer credit – the last thing they need in the aftermath of a storm. To help, Experian has partnered with 14 banks with branches in Texas who will provide free credit and identity checks for hurricane victims, along with free memberships to our identity theft protection product. These tools will give consumers access to daily Experian credit reports, 24/7 credit monitoring, identity protection insurance and a dedicated identity theft specialist to assist with any questions or specific needs.

How a Culture of Innovation helps Experian Continue Among Forbes’ Top 100 Most Innovative Companies in the World

For the fourth consecutive year, Experian has been named to Forbes Magazine’s Top 100 list of the “World’s Most Innovative Companies.” At Experian, we are proud to foster a global culture of continuous innovation, from finding breakthroughs around better utilizing data to identifying ways we can make access to credit faster and simpler for millions around the world. This past year has been a year of significant milestones, including our partnership with Finicity, the introduction of our Text for Credit product, and our drive to create a more open and adaptive technology environment by implementing API capabilities across the Experian network. In March, we were among the first companies to digitize the mortgage underwriting process. We partnered with Finicity to join our new Digital Verification Solution with their data aggregation and insight platform, creating technology that easily verifies consumer assets and income. This new service enables us improve data accuracy and reduce fraud risk for lenders, and removes the hassle and piles of paperwork for consumers, accelerating the loan underwriting process to as little as 10 days. In July, we introduced the first-ever credit solution that enables consumers to apply for credit with a simple text message. Utilizing patent-pending mobile identification through our Smart Lookup process, consumers can be recognized by their device credentials, bypassing the need to fill out a lengthy credit application. Our Text for Credit product enables consumers to apply for real-time access to credit while standing in line to make their purchases, or before entering an auto dealership. We’ve also implemented application programming interfaces (APIs) across the Experian network. This works to improve the transfer of data, speed up the pace of innovation and foster a more collaborative environment, enabling us to create a more efficient and targeted platform for our customers. Additionally, understanding that healthcare is becoming the “new retail” environment, Experian launched price transparency and patient estimate tools that provide health systems with real-time eligibility and insurance coverage to help patients avoid the sticker shock associated with unforeseen medical expenses. An industry’s greatest innovators are successful not only because they deliver superior products in the present, but also – and perhaps more importantly – because they continuously solidify their place in the future through a culture of discovery that encourages modernization and disruption. As author Greg Satell outlined in his new book, Mapping Innovation: A Playbook for Navigating a Disruptive Age, the work we do in our DataLabs – and throughout Experian – shows our commitment to being inventive and agile in an increasingly competitive market. Helping My Community Confidently Achieve Financial Milestones #ExperianStories

A few years back, a friend approached me at church, devastated because his identity had been stolen. His tampered identity made it difficult for him to access credit, and his small business was suffering as a result. I’ve been working at Experian for 9 years, and I’m regularly asked by folks how to effectively build credit and keep identities secure, but this case had me stumped. I ended up directing him to a colleague of mine who helped facilitate his recovery, but I wanted to do more. I started asking around the office how I could help not only friends and family, but anyone in the community who is concerned about their credit. That’s when I joined Experian’s Ambassadors Program. As an Ambassador, I now regularly volunteer my time to share financial literacy presentations on credit and identify theft prevention with people in my community, from students to church groups. One presentation I gave recently really changed my perspective on the power of credit. My son asked me to present at his company, Capital Group, in the Financial District of Los Angeles. Walking into the presentation, I assumed that their work in finance would make them credit experts. I assumed I would be presenting to a small group of people who felt confident about their credit and would ask very few questions. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The group was two times larger than any audience I’d presented to before, and they were incredibly engaged. Many inquired about simple credit concepts: “What should I be aware of regarding my credit report? How can I make my credit better?” It dawned on me that just because someone’s in finance or business doesn’t automatically mean they understand the ins and outs of credit – they work just like you and I do, and it’s not their #1 job to worry about their credit. I realized that everyone could benefit from the information we were providing. During that presentation, I broke the concept of credit down into manageable chunks, explaining things like the consequences of late mortgage payments, how to prevent identity fraud and a person’s credit utilization rate. I drew on the mistakes I made as a young man and the hindsight I now have as a grandfather to 19 children. I wanted to equip them with the tools they needed to adjust to all of life’s events – from divorce to sending a kid off to college – and help them make financial changes that will positively benefit them and their families. One presentation at a time, I want to continue ensuring that families can confidently pursue their dreams and achieve financial milestones.

Setting New Standards for the Digital Age

A core theme of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR), which is to keep consumer interests front of mind at all times, mirrors sound fundamental advice for all companies. Customer centric business practices are especially essential in the data-driven age, driving innovation and opportunity. The transparent, secure and effective use of data has transformative potential for consumers and businesses. But consumers must feel comfortable and in control of its opportunities, and there is a clear role for our industry to play in addressing their understandable concerns around privacy and security. In particular, there is a need for more openness about how data is collected and used for the benefit of consumers. In business, we are all aware of the advantages that data-driven technology can bring. Yet the way data is harnessed for good hasn’t, to date, been central part of the prevailing ‘data narrative’. At Experian, we process over 1,151 billion records a year, with a global segmentation of more than 2.3 billion consumers in more than 30 countries, and demographic data on over 700 million individuals and 270 million households combined. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously. We have always aspired to set new benchmarks for best practice in our operating standards and our approach to data stewardship. As a trusted data custodian for millions of consumers, we aim to unlock the power of data to create opportunities for individuals, businesses and society. The world is becoming more connected every day, and if businesses are serious about keeping up with the change, a truly holistic approach to managing all this data is required. One which protects our customers and our products from risks, such as an ever-increasing array of cyber threats, while ensuring the customer journey is as relevant and fluid as it needs to be. To help businesses to start thinking about how they can survive and thrive in the new regulatory environment, we’ve created a new whitepaper, ‘Defining the Data Powered Future’. It sets out some key steps that business should consider working through, our three ‘I’s – “Investigate”, “Improve” and “Integrate”. This Year’s Most Sought-After Data Roles [White Paper] #DataScience #CDO #BigData

Organizations everywhere are looking to do more with their data assets, as well as better leverage open data and third party data sources for additional consumer insight. The good news is that there is no shortage of information available. The bad news is that wrangling and making sense of all that information can be very challenging. That is why we see 61 percent of U.S. companies stating inaccurate data is undermining their ability to provide an excellent customer experience. However, there is a new breed of data professionals trying to change all that. New talent is coming into organizations looking to unlock the power of data to transform business operations and better serve clients. Businesses everywhere are eager to bring on these data professionals; to the point it is creating a frenzy around data staffing. If you are looking to hire new data professionals, you are certainly not alone. According to a new Experian Data Quality report, Investing in Digital Transformation: This Year’s Most Sought-After Data Roles, businesses are hiring a mix of business- and regulation-focused data positions. Below is a chart showing the top roles being hired according to U.S. respondents and also c-level executives specifically: There are a few key roles I want to highlight. First, data analysts. They are the most sought-after data role by U.S. organizations, mainly because they are so versatile. They are individuals placed across departments to analyze data in such a way that it can be used for business intelligence. 57% percent of businesses spend a majority of their time analyzing data, and this role is key to ensuring they’re getting the right results. The most important role for c-level executives is the chief data officer (CDO). The CDO has seen a lot of hype in the past few years and at this point we are seeing more general adoption of the role. This individual is responsible for developing and implementing an information strategy, which includes disciplines like data security, governance, quality, and management. They also will oversee a team of data professionals who bridge the gap between the business and IT. We have more research on this role in particular coming out next month, but they will often shape cross-functional data organizations and how well businesses can achieve the data insight they desire. In general, with all of these roles, talent shortages are a problem. Relative to demand, very few experienced individuals exist on the market. This means organizations need to come up with creative ways to attract and maintain this talent to keep up with the changing business landscape. Text for Credit™ Modernizes the Lending Industry by Allowing Consumers to Obtain “Real Time” Credit via Text

The real-time economy is all around us. With the swipe of a finger, we can order a car, find a babysitter or make a mortgage payment. At the heart of this revolution is the smartphone — a whopping 97 percent of Americans between 18 and 44 own one. This makes the smartphone the single most ubiquitous piece of consumer technology in the United States today. But for all the sectors it has transformed, consumer credit — and the lending experience overall — sadly hasn’t been one of them. That changes today, with the launch of Experian’s Text for CreditTM. In the past, obtaining credit was a tedious and often frustrating experience. Let’s use buying a car as an example. After test-driving a few makes and models, you’ve finally settled on the perfect car — an SUV, perhaps. You head to the dealership and then fill out page after page of personal information to prove your creditworthiness. Finally, after what can sometimes be hours, you’re (hopefully) approved. Not only does this take up valuable time, it also makes it less likely you’ll shop around for the best deal. On top of this, you’re sharing sensitive personal financial details with a complete stranger and leaving a paper trail. Text for Credit solves for these issues. And it’s as simple as it sounds: When seeking credit, you text a keyword such as “CREDIT” to a number supplied by a business, the same way some retailers now allow consumers to “text to buy.” Within seconds, you’ll receive a text message response that takes you to a hosted website where you can review credit offers, apply and receive an instant decision. In most cases, you’ll be recognized by your device’s credentials, which lets you avoid filling out a lengthy credit application. If approved, you’ll have real-time access to the credit via a barcode or account details sent to your device. To develop Text for Credit, we thought about consumers’ biggest concerns when applying for credit. In a July 2017 Experian survey, consumers most frequently cited privacy as a top concern. This was followed closely by the time it takes to apply. Lengthy application processes are such a challenge, in fact, that one in 10 consumers surveyed said they have simply walked away from a purchase because the application process was taking too long. Perhaps more frustrating, roughly the same number have given up because the person in front of them was going through a lengthy credit application process. Text for Credit addresses these concerns by using sophisticated mobile security techniques to verify identity and provide an almost instantaneous credit decision, alleviating potentially dirty looks from your fellow shoppers in line. Obtaining credit should never be done impulsively or recklessly, but it shouldn’t be needlessly complicated, either. Smartphones and the real-time economy are making countless facets of our lives more efficient and allowing us to dedicate our precious time to pursuits that matter to us. Breaking Down Barriers and Encouraging Young Women to Pursue Data Science #ExperianStories

Believe it or not, my personal journey as a woman in data science started with physics. I was always very curious by nature and tried to understand what happens around me. I studied for both a master’s in physics in Spain and a Ph.D. in astrophysics in the Netherlands before making my shift from academia to industry (first in a Big Four consultancy and later in Experian). Gradually, I realized that I liked the academic side of working with data and applying the scientific method to solving problems, but I wanted to do something faster-paced that had more tangible impact. So, before finishing my Ph.D., I joined a data boot camp to further develop my skills, and after defending my thesis I transitioned to data science. Now I’m a full-fledged data scientist at Experian DataLabs. The world is at a very interesting time in terms of technology and innovation, and STEM fields are only going to continue growing. As a data scientist myself, I may be biased, but I think the future of this field is particularly interesting. I can see data being applied in such a variety of ways – from self-driving cars to early medical diagnoses and beyond. In fact, I don’t see the momentum slowing down any time soon, which means that data scientists will continue to be in high demand. I want to do something about the disproportionate amount of men to women in science, showing girls that STEM is for them, too. There’s no quick-fix solution, but I think it’s essential to start educating girls when they’re young about STEM – both at home and in school. Young girls should be encouraged to be curious, to try and fail! For me, data science isn’t about getting it right the first time; it’s about the path of discovery and innovation along the way. The sooner and the longer that girls are encouraged to explore and play with less-conventional toys, like computer games, construction toys or logic puzzles, the likelier they may be to choose careers based on what they personally enjoy doing and not what society expects them to do. Gender stereotypes can be really constraining, especially for children. So, what can a diverse workforce offer that a narrow one can’t? The answer is easy: different approaches, different views and different solutions. With more women in fields like data science, everyone benefits. No one should have to automatically rule themselves out of a career path based on gender.

Experian Funds Programs to Boost Consumer Financial Capability

Knowledge is the key to unlocking financial success. Experian is committed to increasing consumer understanding of financial concepts. By doing so we are confident that we can empower consumers, make a difference in our communities and help to create a better tomorrow As part of that commitment, Experian has contributed $475,000 to 10 non-profit organizations to boost personal finance education for the people they serve. The organizations support a range of communities, from military members and minorities, to youth programs and women trying to establish their own small businesses. Experian’s funds will help the following organizations strengthen financial education and help individuals make more informed financial decisions now and throughout their lives: Heroes at Home — $75,000 Heroes at Home partners provides financial education to U.S. military members and their families at Air Force bases across the United States. Experian’s support will enable the program to expand to additional bases and grow to include financial education events at key European Air Force bases, reaching more service men and women and their families serving our country. Grameen America — $75,000 Grameen America is a community development nonprofit that focuses on helping women in poverty build small businesses through micro-lending and education. Experian’s funds help women who are excluded from the financial system achieve financial inclusion and success by establishing their own micro-businesses. Working Credit — $30,000 Working Credit is a program that works with employers to conduct financial education in the workplace. Experian’s contribution will facilitate a pilot program with employers who have lower-wage employees in the retail and manufacturing sectors. The program will provide financial education for employees with three goals for employees:  increasing their credit score, investing in retirement savings and creating emergency funds. Financial Beginnings — $21,000 Financial Beginnings is a nonprofit organization that conducts financial education and training for adults and youth in the Pacific Northwest.  Experian’s funds will facilitate growth of the Financial Beginnings outreach by adding additional trainings. Junior Achievement — $42,000 Experian employees in the Boston volunteer with Junior Achievement of Northern New England, which provides financial education for youth. Experian’s contribution will enable a significant number of trained staff to volunteer their time to participate in youth financial education in the region. Society for Financial Education & Professional Development (SFE&PD) — $60,000 The SFE&PD’s mission is to improve financial literacy in the African American community through programs with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). The organization conducts financial education programs for students, faculty and staff. Experian’s funds will enable financial education programs at HBCUs across the country. America Saves First-Time Workers Program — $50,000 The America Saves First-Time Workers program brings together nonprofit organizations, municipal government and private business.  First-time workers are paired by government agencies with businesses and must participate in financial education through their employer. Experian’s grant is being used to expand the program to additional cities and to reach more low- and moderate-income summer youth workers. JumpStart National Financial Educator Conference — $50,000 Experian funding will support the JumpStart National Financial Educator Conference, which is dedicated to personal finance education for classroom teachers.  Teachers who participate in the conference conduct trainings with colleagues across their school systems to implement financial education in their schools, reaching tens-of-thousands of students each year. Additionally, Experian employees volunteer with JumpStart state coalitions to encourage financial education in our schools. LifeSmarts — $22,000 Funds from Experian  will support the LifeSmarts growth initiative to strengthen its relationships with 4-H and U.S. Air Force to help grow participation among military youth. LifeSmarts now has more than 250,000 participants annually in more than 5,000 public schools, as well as youth organizations including 4-H, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). LifeSmarts provides volunteer opportunities for Experian employees who want to attend competitions and submit questions for the LifeSmarts National Championships based on their areas of expertise in financial literacy. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County — $25,000 This is the fourth year that Experian has awarded Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County a grant for its Behind School Walls program. The initiative pairs professional adults with high school freshmen. The mentor/mentee relationship continues through the students’ senior year.

How’s your financial health?

Financial education for me as I was growing up consisted of two things. The first was learning how to balance a checkbook register in sixth grade. But that had everything to do with addition and subtraction. There was no discussion of what a checking account was or how it should be used. The second was about credit, and it came from my parents. In my mother’s view, credit was a gift from God. My father’s perspective was that credit is evil. In time, I learned that neither view is financially healthy — or true. I wish I had been taught that credit — when used properly — is a financial tool, that debt is a financial problem, and that you can have one without the other. Instead, I graduated from college with $25,000 in student loan debt, which is about average now. But that was 26 years ago, so I guess it made me above average then. “Credit is a financial tool, and debt is a financial problem.” I also got a credit card for each T-shirt I signed up for and every drawing I entered to win a prize. That led to the pay-one-balance-with-another-card strategy, until I couldn’t make it work. I finally had the epiphany: The way to fix the credit problem was to quit spending. I proudly managed to pay all my debts on the salary of a small-town newspaper reporter — a whopping $13,000 a year at the time. But it was a long, slow process with a steep learning curve. Apparently, I was a pioneer in the gig economy, finding odd jobs outside of work to make a bit more money, which helped pay my debts a bit faster. If anyone wants to learn the Texas two-step, let me know! “True financial health is making your money work for you, not you working for your money.” Eventually, I discovered that true financial health is making your money work for you, not you working for your money, no matter how little or much of it you have. Even on a reporter’s salary, I could have a steak dinner once a month — granted, it was at a restaurant where you got the steak, potato, salad bar and drink for $7.50. For many things in life, learning from your mistakes makes sense. Financial health is not one of them. That’s why financial education and financial inclusion are so important to me and my work at Experian. Giving people the knowledge they need to make financially healthy choices before they make mistakes ensures they have a much brighter financial future and a much healthier relationship with money and credit. How do we help 138 million adults who struggle financially?

In America, 138 million adults are struggling financially.* That’s nearly half the country’s population. Financial health matters. That’s why we’re joining the Center for Financial Services Innovation and the nation’s leading banks, financial services providers and nonprofits in supporting #FinHealthMatters Day on June 27, 2017. We’re at a critical point in our nation’s history. We need to make a stand and address the root causes of financial instability in this country. I believe the lack of financial education and access to cheaper financial products are two of the key contributors impacting people’s financial health today. Financial education drives better financial health Very early in my childhood, I learned the value of a Deutsche mark — or rather a dollar, as we say in the States. I grew up in Germany, where my father was an insurance salesman, a profession where money was sometimes tight. It was my parents’ financial principles that helped them weather the harder days and leverage the better ones. Their golden rule was always to live within their means. To help me grasp this concept, my parents gave me a modest weekly allowance I had to earn by contributing to household chores. Unfortunately, there were no dishwashers when I was growing up so I had the pleasure of hand-washing every dish at the end of each day. What seemed painful in the moment was rewarded with the funds to be able to do what I enjoyed most, like go to the movies or buy tapes to record my favorite tunes on my tape recorder. I had the freedom to spend my money the way I saw fit, but I could only spend what I had earned. It forced me to learn how to manage my money to have enough for the things I wanted or needed. In the United States, 23% of households can’t save because they spend more than their income. -Center for Financial Services Innovation To encourage their savings principle, my parents added an extra incentive to the allowance. If I didn’t spend all my money but rather saved it, I got a pay raise. Depending on the percentage of how much I saved, I saw incremental increases. The more I saved, the more generous the increase. I quickly learned that saving money had a better return than the hour or so spent in a movie theater. 43% of Americans struggle to pay bills and credit obligations. -Center for Financial Services Innovation Thankfully, I was lucky enough to have parents who taught me basic personal finance skills that set me up for success in my adult life. Unfortunately, unless they have parents who are savvy with money, most people will not learn these simple principles because they aren’t taught in most schools. We know education gives people a step up in life. Imagine how financial education would help people increase their financial health by leaps and bounds. This is why we have a dedicated public education team at Experian to provide consumers with proper credit information. This is also why we financially support nonprofits that share our mission of strengthening financial education. Access to credit increases financial health When I moved from Germany to America in 2001, I was part of the underbanked population. I had no credit history. I was invisible to financial institutions. Due to this, I faced many difficulties in accessing mainstream banking services and low-cost loans. 27% of U.S. households are either unbanked or underbanked. -Center for Financial Services Innovation This is a common issue for many people in this country, particularly low-income individuals and immigrants. These consumers are forced to turn to predatory lenders, which means it’s costing them significantly more for basic financial services. In 2015, these consumers spent a combined $141 billion in fees and interest just to manage their day-to-day financial lives.* Fortunately, my bank took into consideration the fact I paid my rent and utilities on time, and that’s how I built my credit. Others aren’t so lucky and will be in the same vicious cycle the rest of their lives, never improving their financial health — unless we do more. At Experian, we want to give the broader population an opportunity to do the same as I did. That’s why we’re working on bridging the gap between underbanked consumers and financial institutions. One way we accomplish this is through alternative data — data that has never been considered in credit decisions by financial institutions. Rental payments weren’t considered until Experian led this industry in incorporating this data into credit files. This data helps the underserved community establish credit histories. The result is greater access to more affordable credit and the overall improvement of their financial health. Our commitment to help improve financial health The struggling majority is the reason I come to work every day. In my role, I have a huge responsibility to consumers. Promoting Diversity in the Workplace to Ensure a Better Quality of Life for Everyone #ExperianStories

As Serasa Experian’s Corporate Sustainability Manager in Brazil, I’m dedicated to my job promoting diversity and inclusion efforts at work.  But it also happens to be my passion. I believe that companies have a responsibility to reflect the diversity found in society, giving everyone equal opportunity to excel regardless of color, gender or disability. And yet, while a lot of companies over the years have made great strides toward hiring a diverse array of people, sometimes the harder — yet more impactful — work is making sure that diverse group of employees can continue to develop professionally after they’re hired. To this end, Serasa Experian’s Business Network for Social Inclusion (Rede Empresarial de Inclusão Social) launched a program called the Top Talent Project, which encourages and accelerates professional development once someone with physical disabilities is hired. I don’t want to simply hire people with disabilities; I want to ensure they can be productive and grow in their roles. While people with disabilities can bring great experience and skill to their positions, they may need some help integrating into teams. That’s why we work closely with each new hire, their managers and their mentors to guide them on a daily basis. If someone is hearing-impaired, for example, they may know only sign language and not Portuguese, making it difficult for them to communicate with their team. Through the Top Talent Project, we train new hires to communicate at work with their Portuguese-speaking coworkers. And then we give sign language training to their team members! We work hard to create a working environment that ensures success for everyone. In 2016, Serasa Experian received the United Nations Good Practices for Workers with Disabilities Award for our inclusion work in Brazil. That same month, I also was honored to receive the Empregueafro Award from the City Council of São Paulo for promoting ethnic diversity. All these accolades make me so proud because they’re a reflection of the way we at Experian take care of our people. Ten years ago, I changed careers so I could focus more on making the world a better place. Serasa Experian has given me the opportunity to do just that.

Celebrating One Year of Financial Empowerment: The Legacy League Game Show™

Experian is celebrating the one-year anniversary of The Legacy League Game Show™, a dynamic and interactive event that has revolutionized financial literacy education for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). This innovative program, part of the B.A.L.L. for Life™ initiative, combines the excitement of a game show with essential lessons on credit and financial management. We marked the occasion where it debuted in 2023: at EntreprenUTSA at the University of Texas San Antonio. The Legacy League Game Show™ has traveled to ten universities such as Morgan State and Shaw Universities and major events across the United States. The National Urban League describes the event as transformational; HomeFree-USA calls it a “model for how to teach anything to Gen Z and other generations.” Thousands of students have participated across the country, and more than 99% report an increase in their financial literacy after the experience. As someone whose family didn’t discuss money matters growing up, this impact is especially gratifying. In addition to making learning fun, The Legacy League Game Show™ addresses a critical issue: financial invisibility among young consumers, particularly within communities of color. Forty percent of consumers under 25 are credit invisible, with 26% of Hispanic and 28% of Black consumers affected, compared to 16% of their white and Asian peers.   Special guests, including rapper and college basketball standout Flau’jae, comedian and actor Mike Merrill, Louisiana State University wide receiver Chris Hilton, Jr. and Grammy-nominated D Smoke have joined the game show, adding star power and excitement. Next year, The Legacy League Game Show™ will hit the road again, visiting more schools and events. Experian-supported “Your World on Money” Wins Two Anthem Awards

Modernizing the conversation around credit and financial literacy is a key commitment for Experian, especially for young adults. That’s why we partner with organizations like the Singleton Foundation to produce “Your World on Money,” to meet young people where they are, with engaging, easy-to-understand video shorts about credit, budgeting, and saving and more.   We’re thrilled this commitment and creativity has earned both Gold and Bronze Anthem Awards, which recognize excellence in social good, celebrate the impactful work of organizations and initiatives that are driving positive change. Financial literacy is often not taught in schools, and the language around credit and personal finance can be intimidating. By normalizing these conversations, we hope to inspire confidence and action, helping young adults make informed financial decisions as they navigate life’s milestones. Our United for Financial Health partnership with the Singleton Foundation continues with our new series, the Finance Couch, where college students join our experts on a coach in the middle of a Los Angeles campus to answer their money questions. And our Anthem Award-winning series, HeartBroke, helps couples whose relationships are tested with financial issues to determine if they can work through it or end up HeartBroke(n).

Honoring Veterans Day with a Special Recognition and Thank You from Experian

At Experian, we’re proud to observe Veterans Day and celebrate the contributions of our teammates and their families who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This year, we’re especially excited to be ranked #20 on Forbes’ 2024 Best Employers for Veterans list. The list is based on input from over 24,000 veterans who were surveyed by Statista. These veterans, from the Armed Forces, Reserves, and National Guard, work for companies with more than 1,000 employees. They rated their employers on factors like work atmosphere, salary, health benefits, career development, and programs specifically designed for veterans. We’re grateful for how our Veterans Employee Resource Group (ERG) supports the military community, from participating in events like Wreaths Across America, Carry the Load, and the Murph Challenge, to building wheelchair ramps for veterans’ homes. The Veterans ERG just completed its 20th ramp last month. With a goal of bringing Financial Power to All™, Experian provides free credit reporting to active-duty members and supports financial literacy and education through our partnerships with Support the Enlisted Project (STEP) and Operation HOPE. As part of our observance of Veterans Day, we invite veterans to join us for this week’s #CreditChat, “Transitioning to Civilian Life: Financial Considerations for Veterans” on Wednesday, November 14, from 3–4 p.m. ET. New Initiative Aims to Empower Opportunities in the Hispanic Community

We believe that financial literacy leads to empowerment. That is why Experian supports initiatives and partners with community organizations to deliver financial education. We also develop products and services that give more control to consumers over their credit profile and financial health. As part of advancing our mission of Financial Power to All®, we are proud to announce we are helping more than 5,000 Hispanic individuals nationwide by relieving $10 million dollars of consumer debt. To provide families with this boost, we joined forces with ForgiveCo, a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), to administer the acquisition and cancellation of qualifying consumer debt for the selected recipients. Beneficiaries will also receive a one-year premium Experian membership for free that offers access to their Experian credit report in English and Spanish[i], FICO® Score[ii], bilingual educational content, and other financial resources. We hope this effort helps raise awareness of the importance of financial literacy for everyone, and that Experian has resources to help individuals reach their financial dreams.  To amplify the message, we collaborated with multi-platinum, award-winning singer and songwriter Prince Royce and you can see his video here. In fact, we have been making a concerted effort the last several years to evolve our educational resources and products to better support all underserved communities. Some of our other activities include the creation of the B.A.L.L. for Life initiative that connects African American and Hispanic youth with financial education, supporting scholarships for Asian Americans through the Ascend organization, providing custom resources for Out & Equal and Born This Way Foundation for the LGBTQ+ community, supporting the NextGen Innovation Lab for Disability:IN, and sponsoring credit counseling for the military community with Operation HOPE. Six Back to School Financial Literacy Tips for College Students

Even though 26 states now have a personal finance course as a requirement for high school graduation, 40 percent of college students do not feel they have enough knowledge about how to manage money. It’s a challenge that the Center for Financial Advancement® (CFA) Credit Academy addresses with participating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). A collaboration between Experian and HomeFree-USA, the program  culminates in the #IYKYK (If You Know You Know) Pitch Competition and a couple hundred new knowledge ambassadors about financial health and credit. Here, competition finalists share their advice for students as they hit campus for a new school year: MALAYA MELTON, Alabama State University Advice I'll give to incoming freshmen is to try to apply for scholarships. It takes some of the burden off. For me, I took about two years making sure that I got the right amount of scholarships before coming to school, because I knew that I wouldn't be able to afford it. My family won't be able to afford it. So, try to be very serious about applying for scholarships, and apply to internships that also get you money that you can use towards school or your personal development. JAZMIN FELIZ ORELLANA, Bowie State University Don't take out loans if you don't have to. I think many freshmen forget that they'll have to pay off those loans once they graduate after a certain time, and that definitely can affect their credit, especially if they're not able to pay for it. OLUWATOSIN OYEKEYE, Alabama State University Save your money, save your money, save your money. It's okay to go to a college in your hometown. Save as much money as you can, because you really don't know where you'll need it. If you get that credit card, make sure that you're paying all the payments on time. Do not wait till the last minute to pay it. PHILIP OMO-TAIGA, North Carolina A&T State University Budgeting. I think that's really what plays into the whole thing of credit, which is there obviously to help you. But it can also go really, really bad. When you think about what it takes to find that healthy balance, you got to learn how to budget because you may go through a period where you're not working. So now it's like, "Okay, now I got to leverage this money that I maybe have saved up. Maybe think about my credit so that I'm not burying myself into a hole. I'm not working, so there's no way I can pay it down." I think when it comes to finding that healthy medium, budgeting is definitely key. CALVIN CHARLES III, Bowie State University A secure credit card. I think freshman year is a great way to enter college (with one) because you're going to have items and things that you are going to have to pay for anyway. Why not begin building your credit there? I can personally say my first credit card I opened at 18, so that gave me the years of credit history. ESANTE-JOY MCINTYRE, North Carolina A&T State University It is never really how you start, but it's how you finish. Freshman year I might not have that scholarship. But I promise you by sophomore year I had $10,000 from outside scholarships, I had $10,000 from doing pitch competitions, $5,000 from here, from there. So, don't give up on the idea of searching. If you are able to search, you'll find it. Those opportunities and resources are out there, and Experian is just a testament to that.

Three Myths Blocking the Way to Greater Financial Inclusion

Amid some of the financial challenges that underserved communities experience, members across the financial services community remain committed to championing initiatives and programs that drive greater financial inclusion. In fact, collaboration has led to the inclusion of non-debt related payment information on consumers’ credit profiles, as well as digital services that make it easier to manage money. These efforts have helped to broaden access to fair and affordable financial resources for more individuals. While significant progress has been made, there is still more work to do. However, some of the misconceptions and myths about the financial services community are hindering further advancement. Debunking these myths will accelerate progress by building trust between the financial services community and consumers. Person withdrawing money from ATM contactless Myth #1: “Financial institutions have no interest in underserved consumers or credit invisibles.” The truth is, banks and credit unions want to say “yes” to more prospective borrowers, including individuals and families from underserved communities. Beyond being the right thing to do, it’s an opportunity to potentially build lifelong relationships with a relatively untapped market. A show of good faith to communities who have largely been ignored by the financial system could lead to customer loyalty that may extend to their family and friends. That’s why participants across the financial ecosystem have been proponents of including expanded data sources—such as on-time telecom, utility and video streaming service payments—on to consumer credit reports, as well as exploring other Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)-regulated data sources, including payment data on short-term small dollar loans and expanded public records data. Making this data more accessible to lenders provides a more comprehensive view of a consumer’s ability and willingness to repay outstanding debt—an actionable solution to extending credit to consumers without lenders taking on additional risk. Myth #2: “There is a lack of trustworthy financial education resources.” The financial services community and affiliated organizations recognize that empowering people with financial knowledge and skillset are critical to consumers’ financial success. In fact, banks and credit unions are partnering with nonprofits and non-governmental organizations to better understand the unique challenges and opportunities within specific communities and provide relevant tools and resources. For example, Experian’s B.A.L.L. for Life (Be A Legacy Leader) program, launched in partnership with the National Urban League, serves as a catalyst for engaging with Black communities and low-income youth through live events and digital financial education. Subject matter experts, professional athletes, celebrities, and other influencers share their experiences and expertise, covering topics such as banking, credit, financial management and investing. In addition, to help people improve their financial management, Experian partners with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC). The NFCC connects consumers with certified financial counselors to help them address various pain points, including debt management, homeownership, student loans or small business cash flow issues. Myth #3: “Underserved communities have few opportunities to build credit and enter the mainstream financial system.” People from underserved communities, as well as younger consumers and recent immigrants are often excluded from the mainstream financial system because they lack an extensive credit history. Historically, it’s created a vicious cycle; in order to get credit, you have to have credit. Fortunately, there has been a sea change in innovative solutions to address the specific needs of these populations. These include new credit scoring models and microfinancing which provide financial services to individuals who may have been excluded from traditional banking systems. In addition, by incorporating expanded data sources, such as telecom, utility and residential rental payments onto credit reports, lenders have more visibility into consumers who may have been excluded by traditional credit scoring methods.These programs help individuals and families from underserved communities establish and build a credit history that could enable loans, or the ability to rent an apartment or open their dream business. An example is Experian Boost®, a free feature that allows Experian members to contribute their history of making utility, cellphone, insurance, residential rent and video streaming service payments directly into their Experian credit profile. By incorporating nontraditional credit data like paying utility bills on time, online banking transactions, rental payments and verified income data, more people can establish a credit profile that can potentially qualify them for a loan. More Inclusion, Fewer Myths It’s encouraging that community organizations and banks are beginning to see the economic and social benefits of aligning on financial literacy and inclusion. As more initiatives come online, underserved populations will be able to establish a better financial foundation. Then, we can declare the myths to be history.

Experian is a Top Workplace for Disability Inclusion

Experian is wrapping up several inspiring days at the 2024 Disability:IN Conference. We are a proud Presenting partner, and as part of our support this year, we had the honor of being the key sponsor for the NextGen Innovation Lab Pitch Competition. This initiative brings together young adults to develop innovative products or services that benefit individuals with disabilities. It provides a platform for young minds to harness their creativity and technical skills to solve real-world challenges faced by the disability community. This year, we challenged these NextGen leaders to create a product or service specifically for young adults with disabilities that can help them build their credit or improve their financial literacy. Only 10% of working aged people with disabilities consider themselves to be financially healthy, according to a recent study. Eight enthusiastic and passionate teams shared their ideas and the top two vote-getters’ pitched live, “Shark Tank” style, in front of thousands of conference attendees. The winner: Team 7’s “Experian Expedition,” which enhances the accessibility of the existing Experian app and adds new experiences such as an accessible credit card that also features braille; voice-guided, American Sign Language and closed-captioned exercises; and an incentive program for young adults as they reach various financial health milestones with cash back and coupons. We congratulate Team 7 and all of the teams for their collaboration with Experian and each other. The ideas and services developed through the NextGen iLab have the potential to make a significant impact on the disability community, enhancing accessibility, independence, and quality of life for millions. Sponsoring the NextGen iLab is just one of the many ways Experian is committed to disability inclusion. For the third consecutive year, Experian has achieved a top score in the Disability Equality Index (DEI) 2024. Six Financial Wellness Tips for College Graduates 

Caps and gowns. Pomp and circumstance. Loans and debt. As the class of 2024 celebrate their college graduations, more than 43 million of them leave school with a total national debt of more than $1.6 trillion. Some are on better financial footing than others – with no debts as they start their careers – because of early financial and credit education. These learnings fueled ideas for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) who competed in this year’s #IYKYK Pitch Competition (If You Know You Know), sponsored by HomeFree-USA and Experian. The challenge: to create solutions that help their peers become debt-free within five years of graduation. Here, finalists share some advice for graduates on how they can start their post-collegiate lives on solid financial footing: OLUWATOSIN OYEKEYE, Alabama State University You're not too young. I feel like most people think it's until you're married or you have kids before you should take your financial life seriously. From your first couple of first paychecks, look into where you can invest. If you don't want to live from paycheck to paycheck, look for ways to grow your money. Take your credit seriously. If you want to own a home, you want to buy a car, these things are important. It's not too early, it’s also not too late to start taking these things seriously. JAZMIN FELIZ ORELLANA, Bowie State University You don't have to start off with a credit card with a $10,000 limit. You can easily start off with a secured credit card. And that's actually one of my biggest pieces of advice. Get a credit card, be mindful with it, don't spend, don't max it out, but definitely just practice and start using it to see if you're actually able to maintain your credit. That's a piece of advice that definitely has worked with me, especially with building up my own credit, which I hope to get soon to 800. MARCUS HARRIS, North Carolina A&T University Always go out and explore opportunities that could first boost your credit and put you in a more financial-free state. For example, with Experian, they have an Experian Boost program that when you're in school, if you have rent, you rent an apartment, you could apply that. Or even the Netflix subscription, you can apply that to the Experian Boost program and therefore you can help build your credit over the time. TAYLOR PAYTON, Bowie State University To college students who are about to graduate, once they get that job offer with a lot of zeros behind it, be mindful of lifestyle influences. Just because you're making a certain amount of money does not mean you have to spend all of it. Be mindful not to keep up with the Joneses. CHIOMA KALU, Alabama State University There's something my sister used to say. She used to say, "Pay now, play later. Or if you play now, you pay later." I feel like if they focus during their youth when they can really do these things and really go out there, do the jobs, focus on paying off everything, getting that financial literacy, getting that financial freedom, and then at age 30 you're already set up for life. That makes more sense than just going through life, just ballin’, and then at the end of the day, if you have to pay when you're like 60? You're still paying student loans? Come on, now. CALVIN CHARLES III, Bowie State University Do not get caught up in social media. Just because you want to live in the city doesn't mean that that's what you have to do. And there's nothing wrong with roommates. They can allow you to reach your actual goals. Every meal does not have to be eaten out. Social media creates a lifestyle that you wish to live, and living in that moment is great, but you have to think about your future and building that wealth for yourself directly afterwards.
