Dear Max,
Can I request a free annual copy of my credit report? Does your driving record affect your credit score?
- CYL
Dear CYL,
You can request a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months at www.annualcreditreport.com, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act) Web site.
Your driving record is not a part of your credit history, but could be incorporated into insurance scores, which are used specifically by insurance companies when you apply for a policy.
Insurance companies use risk score models designed specifically for that industry, which often incorporate your driving record, to help them evaluate your policy application.
Your driving record, though, will have no bearing on other credit scores used by lenders.
Thanks for asking.
