At Experian we recognize our teammates are central to our business success. By including people with disabilities in our workplace, we gain their unique perspectives and different approaches to problem solving.  Experian is committed to supporting this community and we are delighted to be named a 2023 Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion by the American Association of People with Disabilities and Disability:IN. For the second year in a row, we earned a score of 100 out of 100 in the Disability Equality Index (DEI), the world’s most comprehensive benchmarking tool that measures disability workplace inclusion. We continue to explore and prioritize ways to enhance our flexible work environment and engage with those who can help lead the charge most effectively. Creating a better tomorrow extends to third parties we work with and serve. We launched a pilot program called the Support Hub, which gives disabled people and those with additional support needs an easy, one-stop portal to tell organizations what they need to access essential services; it also helps organizations meet their obligations to better identify and support vulnerable customers.  We’re proud to partner with National Disability Institute to support its Financial Resilience Center that provides information and resources to help people with disabilities and chronic health conditions build their financial resilience, and with National Disability Institute and Disability:IN to explore how financial service providers can better support equal access to financial opportunities. Our inclusion in the DEI for the third consecutive year honors the determination, creativity, and empathy of our colleagues with disabilities as we strive to be a great place to work. During Disability Pride Month, we are especially proud and hopeful by our most recent honor: Experian earned a score of 100 out of a possible 100 in the Disability Equality Index® (DEI). The DEI is the world’s most comprehensive benchmarking tool for the Fortune 1000 and Am Law 2001 to measure disability workplace inclusion against competitors. Several of our colleagues were on hand at the recent 2022 Disabilty:IN Conference to pick up our award. We improved from our score of 90 last year, and are considered a Best Workplace for Disability Inclusion. We’re honored to partner with two of the community’s leading organizations, Disability:IN and the National Disability Institute towards our commitment to financial empowerment for people with disabilities. We’re hosting conversations like this one to raise awareness of the barriers and explore solutions to financial inclusion. Experian is powering the credit resource page of the Financial Resilience Center so consumers have information at their fingertips. People with disabilities represent over one billion people across the globe. As one of our colleagues who represented Experian on a panel about innovation at the 2022 Disability:IN Conference explains, disability is a natural part of the human experience, and it crosses lines of age, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and religion. It’s in that spirit that we held a Global Hackathon, challenging our colleagues to create future products and services that can further the mission of financial inclusion and equity for communities worldwide. As co-executive sponsors of Experian’s ASPIRE employee resource group, which advocates for teammates with disabilities, we’re proud to have our progress acknowledged. And we’re hopeful because while we know the work of inclusion will never be done, the Disability Equality Index indicates we’re evolving in the right direction. This year is the first time we are observing International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), but Experian has been working to support those who identify as part of this community long before now. I share the story of my colleague, software engineer Andy Willard. While Andy has been with Experian for 25 years, he didn’t share his deteriorating eyesight condition with managers at first. “Truthfully, I didn’t ask for a lot. I had the position and I don’t want to rock the boat or put a spotlight on myself. But in 2000, I stopped driving and rode the bus to work a lot. That would take an hour and a half each way. I finally went to my manger and requested telecommuting days, and at the time no one was getting those,” Andy said. His managers immediately agreed and he works 100 percent remotely, long before the pandemic. Experian provided tools like larger monitors and accessibility software to assist with on-screen reading. He appreciates the technology and the time the company allows him for classes to learn about new ways to adjust to working with his visual impairment. But, there can still be some challenges, like when a company-wide software update doesn’t automatically reconnect his system with the screen reader or screen magnifying tools. We know we still have work to do. Being named a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion earlier this year let us know we’re on the right track; and we’re excited to continue developing our partnerships with Disability:IN and the National Disability Institute, for which our Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer Wil Lewis is a board member of both. As the co-executive sponsor of the ASPIRE employee resource group, which focuses on mental health, caregiving and disabilities, we want our coworkers to know they are supported and we will do all we can to ensure they continue to grow and develop their careers, as Andy did. His first job at Experian was as an analyst, then moved on to software development and then into a software engineering role. I’m proud of the work we are doing at Experian. We’ve made great strides forward to support an inclusive work environment for everyone, and there’s more to be done. I encourage my coworkers to share their stories as Andy did so we know where we should focus our efforts and support our colleagues in making Experian an employer of choice for people who live with disabilities.
