We are delighted to have completed the acquisition of a 60% stake in Arvato Financial Solutions Risk Management Division (AFS RM), expanding our presence in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH) and bringing Germany’s second largest credit bureau into Experian.  It is an incredibly exciting moment for us both and marks a significant step forward in Experian EMEA’s growth ambitions.        Together, we form a powerful new partnership in Europe’s economic powerhouse. With AFS RM’s local expertise and sector knowledge of industries like e-commerce, telecoms and insurance, and our global experience and innovation in data, analytics, software, and technology platforms, we will redefine what’s possible for our customers.     AFS RM brings market presence with high-quality risk, fraud and identity management products and solutions tailored for key industries.   We bring scale, expertise, and innovative products like Experian One and Ascend Analytics on Demand.  Together, we will offer the best new technologies into these markets, delivering broad coverage and innovation that enables existing and new customers to make better, faster decisions, ultimately delivering greater access to finance for people across the region.     Our new partnership will be branded Experian, which is just one of the ways we’re welcoming AFS RM to the Experian family.  I’m delighted it will be led by Kai Kalchthaler as CEO, Experian DACH, who will ensure we help businesses find and fulfill their potential, so they can go further with us.  Watch how we’re redefining possible, today, tomorrow, together here.

We are delighted to have announced our proposed acquisition of a 60% stake in Arvato Financial Solutions Risk Management division.   Bringing together Experian’s global data expertise with AFS Risk Management’s market and sector experience will create a uniquely innovative organisation that can offer the best of both companies to the Germany, Austria & Switzerland (DACH) region.   For us in Experian EMEA this is an incredibly exciting moment. Germany is Europe’s economic powerhouse and there is a huge opportunity to bring our Decisioning and Analytics expertise and products like Ascend Analytics on Demand to benefit existing and new clients of both organisations. Not only that, we have the privilege to work with a well-respected, established organisation like AFS Risk Management, with its deep focus on customer service, high-quality products, and solutions tailored for key industries like e-commerce, telecoms and insurance; and with the Bertelsman Group, one of Europe’s leading media groups.   Following completion, our intention is to make a new, joint entity, made up of the best of Experian and AFS Risk Management, delivering broad coverage and a strong product and innovation roadmap across the DACH region. Clients of both organisations will quickly be able to benefit from the strengths each partner brings – as we deliver the best new technologies into the region, enabling them to make better, faster decisions, and ultimately delivering greater access to finance for people across the region.     The acquisition now enters the EU’s standard competition review process.

Charles Butterworth talks about the acquisition of leading South African companies Compuscan and Scoresharp Today we announced the completion of our acquisition of Compuscan and Scoresharp in South Africa. This exciting moment creates a single, united Experian organisation that brings together the best of all we offer, not only for South Africa, but the wider African continent. Compuscan’s agile approach has driven its rapid expansion into six Sub-Saharan African countries, alongside emerging business in Australia and the Philippines. Combining Experian’s proven digital strategy with Compuscan and Scoresharp’s cost-effective operating model gives us an excellent foundation for Experian to expand into Africa. This is a commitment we’re serious about, and we’ve made the public commitment to spending at least R120 million on technological enhancements as part of establishing South Africa as an investment hub. For our clients and partners, this acquisition will see the combined organisation bringing new innovations to market, faster and at scale, enabled by our shared bureau data. Delivering additional resources for credit bureau information, decision analytics, marketing services, loyalty & rewards, and training. Allowing us to be more agile, more flexible, and to respond faster to the need of all the organisations and the people we serve. Financial exclusion is a global issue with an estimated 1.7 billion adults currently ‘unbanked’ . Experian’s core mission is to help bring financial inclusion to every adult in the world. There are currently millions of ‘thin file’ consumers and SMEs in sub-Saharan Africa. These are consumers with limited information on a traditional credit bureau or have no information at all, so-called ‘invisibles’, who find themselves excluded from mainstream finance. They often face more difficulty – or higher costs - when applying for financial products or services. That’s why we are proud to announce today the launch of a ground-breaking new smartphone app, GeleZAR, in South Africa, which aims to bring more micro-entrepreneurs into the mainstream economy and ensure they get the credit score they deserve.. Using the expertise of our global innovation hubs, we have developed a unique financial education and credit scoring mobile app. GeleZAR is designed to educate entrepreneurs and individuals on how to manage their finances, budget and credit score in a fun, entertaining and digestible way. It can also advise individuals on how to maintain a good credit health and recommends remedial actions where needed. In partnership with a local South African consumer and fintech developer, Experian designed the app specifically for entry-level smartphones. We are also working with one of the largest low-cost mobile phone retailers in Africa to trial the app which has been pre-installed on a range of its entry-level smartphones.. The intention is to extend the rollout and make the app accessible for free on more than six million devices annually. Working with alternative data that an individual user consents to share on the app, GeleZAR will be able to assess an individual’s stability, build a credit profile and potentially improve their credit score. This in turn could enable them to access a broader range of financial products at more affordable interest rates. This is a great example of how Experian is innovating to find new ways to empower our customers while uplifting societies. It also fulfils our passion for financial inclusion and the accurate assessment of affordability. Experian’s cutting edge technological capabilities enable us to use the power of data to transform lives, businesses and economies for the better. Through our pioneering work in this space we hope to help consumers around the world on their credit journey. GeleZAR is just one of the ways we are delivering on our mission to build and improve the credit files of millions of people in South Africa and beyond.

I’m delighted that we’ve today announced our proposed acquisition of Compuscan, a successful and trusted provider of credit information and analytics services to organisations across South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Lesotho and Uganda, as well as in the Philippines and Australia. As part of the proposed acquisition, we are also pleased to include Scoresharp, Compuscan’s thriving credit risk management consultancy. Established in South Africa in 1994, Compuscan was the country’s first credit bureau for the micro finance sector, providing vital assistance at a time it was most needed.  Compuscan has since become a key player in this sector and grown into a company that operates across nine countries offering creditinformation services, decision analytics services, marketing services and loyalty/rewards services. The proposed acquisition will complement and extend the services already provided by Experian in the South African market, as well as creating significant opportunities for further growth, innovation and financial inclusion across the wider African region. We now enter a standard regulatory review process through which the competition regulator will review the proposed acquisition. South Africa is a vital hub for our regional strategy and the proposed acquisition is just one of the investments we’re making to build our presence here. We recently confirmed the upcoming launch of our new analytics platform Ascend across EMEA, with South Africa planned to be one of the first markets to benefit from its arrival. We’re excited about the potential of this acquisition not only to accelerate our innovation plans, but also to use the combined Compuscan, Scoresharp and Experian organisation to help drive financial inclusion across Africa. We look forward to welcoming the Compuscan and Scoresharp teams to Experian in due course and to bringing all of the benefits of a combined organisation to our clients and consumers across the region.

As any new employee knows, it takes time to adapt to a new company and set of coworkers. I recently joined Experian’s team of 56 employees in the Netherlands office after hearing about the company’s inspiring work in the community. I was eager to get to know each colleague outside of our daily tasks so I could learn what type of CSR projects could work for our office. Luckily, I arrived just in time to participate in a new volunteer partnership with Stichting Present. Stichting Present is an organization that facilitates volunteering programs to support those facing poverty, poor health and social isolation. This new partnership gave my coworkers and I the opportunity to volunteer in the community. During last year’s holiday season, the Experian team collected personal hygiene items such as shampoo and body wash to donate to homeless individuals or those with mental health issues. This past spring, we spent two full days doing renovations for Stichting Leren Doen, a program that teaches at-risk students how to fix and sell bicycles. The students’ program was, by coincidence, moving into Experian’s old office building, so my coworkers and I helped give the place a makeover – we put in new floors, painted the walls, stairs and desks, installed new computers and completed some electricity work. Working together as a team helped us connect on a deeper level as we served those in need. These experiences have given me the opportunity to get to know and appreciate my colleagues better. For example, during the project, I learned that two of my colleagues had bonded with a young woman with autism who was the only female student of Stichting Leren Doen. Although the young woman was reserved at first, she eventually opened up and mentioned that she walked three hours to and from school every day. My colleagues were surprised by this admission and informed the director of the program. Since Stichting Leren Doen is a bike repair education program, the director presented her with a new bike to help shorten her commute. Her face lit up – she loved it. I cannot imagine a more fitting welcome to Experian. Opportunities like these are exactly why I joined the firm and why I am excited for the opportunities ahead. Having a diverse workforce is vital to help us innovate and deliver on the needs of our increasingly diverse clients and consumers. Over the years, we\'ve made some great progress, but there\'s so much more we can do and it\'s going to take the collective effort of all of us to continue to move the needle. That\'s why we\'re gearing up to celebrate International Women\'s Day (IWD). It\'s a day celebrated in many countries around the world to recognize the achievements of women and drive equality among men and women. At Experian, IWD activities are extending throughout the month of March. Have a look at what\'s going on around the world as Experian celebrates this important day: Asia Pacific The Asia Pacific region is hosting a range of activities across our offices in March, which will include round-table and speaker events as well as an opportunity to network and pledge their support for IWD. EMEA and UK&I EMEA and UK&I are joining together for IWD to support and celebrate diversity and inclusion. The week started with a video of employees from both regions reflecting on what diverse teams bring to our business. Employees will also be invited to a variety of events to engage and network with inspirational women and hear stories from our leaders on what diversity means to them personally. Latin America Throughout the month of March, Latin America has been running a campaign to share stories of achievements in their region and raise awareness about breast cancer prevention and other diseases more common in women. On IWD, there will be a panel of women leaders who will address issues such as the social inclusion of women in the region, women\'s participation in the labor market, Experian\'s commitment to female leadership and the importance of a work/life In Brazil, IWD is kicking off with a presentation by members of the United Nations to present their 50-50 Gender Equality program (which aims to eliminate gender inequalities by 2030) and how they are working with companies around the world to achieve this vision. Employees will have an opportunity to hear from leaders in our business about diversity and inclusion plans for the region, and listen to a panel of external speakers discuss diversity challenges and career development. North America Our employees in North America will be kicking off the week with celebrations across their ITS’ 13 offices in the region. Each office will have daily activities throughout the week, and all employees – including virtual and those based in smaller offices – will be invited to attend webinars focused on Diversity and Inclusion topics. On IWD, there will be panel discussions with senior leaders who will speak on various career development topics. To close out the week, there will be a special Book Club discussion on March 9. “I’ve been working with Turkcell for about six years now. I was on my way to have lunch with my main contact there, Elif, and I bumped into so many familiar faces. We agreed that you don’t often get that kind of long, trusted relationship in business. About two years ago, Elif explained to me that Turkcell needed help keeping customer communications fresh and relevant. Turkcell had a fixed weekly marketing plan, but a week is a long time in marketing. Customers were interacting with them all the time, across lots of different channels. These different types of customer communication cancelled out Turkcell’s planned weekly messages. They had to cancel more than half of their planned contacts. The marketing team were really frustrated – this was a complex challenge to fix. We wanted to create a marketing tool that meant Turkcell could speak to their customers every day instead of once a week. And so the right messages got to the right people at the right time. The team we got together on this project were based all over the world: Turkcell and an Experian team in Turkey, me and my team in Nottingham, our software development team in Bulgaria, our product development over in Washington, and Vusal in Monaco who helped us completely automate the process. Vusal’s fluent Turkish certainly came in useful. I flew over to Turkey a few times during the project. Being onsite made a big difference – it meant we could understand and fix issues in hours, rather than days. There’s one particular time that stands out. It was five weeks before the launch, so we had loads to get through. We worked non-stop for two weeks straight, right through the weekends, making sure nothing would stop us getting the daily marketing tool up and running. We’d each bring in different food and fruits for our ‘table picnic’ to keep us going. There was a lot of attention focussed on this project. When it finally went live, we had a ‘phew’ and a ‘wow’ moment. And then we saw the difference it made. It’s done exactly what we wanted it to do and Turkcell’s take-up rates have improved. And now we’ve won a Global Telecoms Business Innovation award for it. It’s a joint award, for both Turkcell and Experian – which feels right. It was hard work, but worth it.”
