American Express takes the top spot for credit card mobile app satisfaction for the second year in a row, according to the 2025 U.S. Credit Card Mobile App Satisfaction Study by J.D. Power. Here's how the top five credit card mobile apps ranked and why J.D. Power considers them the best.

1. American Express

After tying Bank of America for the top spot in 2024, American Express was the clear winner this year with a rating of 687 points out of 1,000.

On the app's main dashboard, you can swipe to see each of your Amex credit cards, along with their current balance, statement balance and recent activity. Other actions you can take from the dashboard include:

  • Making a payment
  • Viewing past monthly statements
  • Checking your spending power
  • Managing your account
  • Viewing new card offers

American Express doesn't readily provide your rewards balance on the main dashboard, but you can select the Membership icon at the bottom of the screen to see your rewards balance, redeem points and read up on your benefits. Tap on the Offers icon to view and add Amex Offers to your account.

Finally, the Account icon lets you view your FICO® ScoreΘ, manage your account users, adjust your settings, freeze your card, update your profile and more.

2. Wells Fargo

After receiving a below-average rating in 2024, Wells Fargo jumped to second place this year with a rating of 676 out of 1,000.

On the app's dashboard, you'll see your current balance for each of your accounts, along with access to your FICO® Score and LifeSync, which allows you to set and track money goals. Tap on an account, and you'll get more details about your statement and payment due dates, the current amount due, available credit and recent transactions.

You can also check your rewards balance and manage your points. Select the "Manage" tab, and you can turn your card on and off, request a replacement, set up digital wallets, manage alerts and more.

3. Discover

The Discover mobile app came in at a close third with a rating of 674, just two points behind Wells Fargo.

When you log in to the Discover app, you'll see your balance for each account. You can swipe right on an account, and you'll see your rewards balance and payment due date. Then, swipe left and opt to view your account activity or make a payment. The card issuer's mobile app makes it easy to switch between your accounts on the main page and also allows you to quickly check your FICO® Score from the dashboard.

When you tap on an account, you'll be able to see your recent transactions and other account details. Discover also provides a spend analyzer, which breaks down your transactions into categories and shows you monthly trends so you can better understand where your money is going.

You can also view and redeem your cash back or miles (depending on which card you have), view all of your card benefits, refer a friend, freeze your account, manage authorized users and more.

4. U.S. Bank

Coming in fourth is U.S. Bank's mobile app, which received a rating of 666 points out of 1,000. That's impressive, considering J.D. Power ranked U.S. Bank's mobile app among the worst for credit card satisfaction in 2024.

The app allows you to easily view your account balances, access your VantageScore® 3.0 credit score, add cards to mobile wallets, lock and unlock cards, set travel notifications and more.

You can also get personalized insights into your spending with category highlights, along with recommendations from the U.S. Bank Smart Assistant based on your spending history.

5. Barclays

Rounding out the top five, Barclays received a rating of 661 out of 1,000 points.

On the home screen, you'll see each of your accounts, along with the current balance and rewards balance. You can also perform the following:

  • Make and schedule payments
  • View statements
  • Add authorized users
  • Manage rewards
  • View available offers
  • Report fraud or a lost card
  • Add your card to a digital wallet
  • Lock and unlock your card
  • Set spending limits

Features to Look for in a Credit Card Mobile App

As you compare credit cards, the card issuers' mobile apps may not be as important as rewards and benefits. However, it can still be an important consideration, especially if you like to manage your finances on the go.

When learning more about the mobile apps for each card you're considering, here are some helpful features to keep an eye out for:

  • Simple dashboard: How easy is it to view your account balances and switch between accounts from the front page? Can you also view your credit score and access other features from the dashboard?
  • Security features: Most major credit card mobile apps allow you to set up facial recognition and fingerprint scans to get into your account. Beyond that, do they make it easy to lock and unlock your card or ask for a replacement? What other security features do they offer to keep your information safe?
  • Easy rewards redemption: If you have a rewards credit card, being able to view and redeem your points, miles or cash back from your mobile app can be incredibly convenient. Read reviews about the ease of navigation for this process to determine if it's right for you.
  • Payment options: Being able to pay your credit card bill from your mobile app is a standard feature. But some apps also allow you to set up automatic payments, add a new pay-from account and even change your due date.
  • Other features: Does the credit card issuer make it easy to give you a snapshot of all of your recent activity across all of your cards? Does it have other features such as easy access to your credit score, insights into your spending habits?

Check Your Credit Before Applying for a New Card

If you're considering switching to a new credit card, make sure you check your credit score before you apply. Most of the best cards require good or excellent credit, which means a score in the upper 600s or higher.

If your credit score isn't where it needs to be, consider taking time to improve your credit before you start applying for new cards.

Note: Features and capabilities may differ slightly from what is described here depending on your mobile operating system.
