Frequently asked questions
Having a credit report doesn’t automatically mean you have an Experian account. Your credit report is something Experian maintains about you, while an Experian account is what you create to securely view your report and access additional member benefits.
If you’re unsure whether you already have an account:
- Try using Forgot Username or Forgot Password to check whether your information matches an existing account. Your username may be the email address you used when you created your account.
- Try to verify your account with a text message or phone call.
- If no match is found, you can create a free account.
There are two ways to change the phone number associated with your Experian account.
Option 1: If you cannot sign in
If you no longer have access to the phone number associated with your account, you can reset your account with your new phone number by following these steps:
- Visit the Account Setup page.
- Provide the last 4 digits of your Social Security number and your new phone number.
- Once you submit your information, you’ll receive either a text message with a link or a phone call with a 6‑digit code to verify your new number.
- Verify your name and mailing address.
- Create your new account with an email address and password.
- Follow the instructions to confirm you have access to the email address associated with your account, or provide additional documentation to verify your identity.
Option 2: If you can sign in
- Sign in to your account.
- Go to the Your Account page.
- Select Account Information and update your phone number.
To reset your password with a verification code:
- Visit the Reset Password page.
- Provide your username associated with your account to get started.
- To reset your password, provide the phone number connected to your account. You will have the option to receive the verification code by text message or phone call.
To reset your password with security questions:
- Visit the Reset Password page.
- Provide your username associated with your account to get started.
- Click on “Prove it's you another way.”
- Answer the security question with the answer you provided when you first registered.
- Provide your 4-digit PIN.
If you don’t remember your security question or PIN, contact member support for help.
To update your email address on your account:
- Sign in to your account.
- Navigate to Your Account page.
- Update and verify your new email address.
You can also contact member support to update your email address. State your request and follow instructions to verify your identity. Once confirmed, you will receive instructions on how to change your email address through our automated services.
To retrieve your username:
- Visit the Forgot Username page.
- Provide your date of birth and Social Security number to help verify your identity.
- We’ll send your username to the email address on your Experian account. Please check your spam or junk folder and allow 15 minutes for the email to arrive.
If you repeatedly try to sign in and are unsuccessful, or if we suspect suspicious activity, your account may be temporarily locked for security reasons. In that case, take these steps:
- Wait 24 hours and try again.
- Visit the Reset Password page to unlock your account by creating a new password.
- If neither of the above steps work and you need immediate assistance, contact member support. State your issue and follow instructions to verify your identity. Once confirmed, your account will be unlocked.
If you did not receive your verification code, try these steps:
- Select “Send the code to me again” on the verification screen. This will resend a new 6‑digit code to your phone number ending in the number shown on the screen.
- Make sure your phone has a signal and can receive text messages or calls.
- If the code still does not arrive, select “Try login another way” on the screen. This will let you use a different verification method if one is available on your account.
A passkey is a secure, password-free way to sign in. Instead of typing a password, you confirm your identity using an option such as your phone's Face ID (or other device biometrics like Touch ID or a fingerprint), a device PIN, or your password manager.
Passkeys work on supported websites, including your Experian member account, and can be used on supported devices that are signed in to your Google, Apple, or Microsoft account.
Do I have to use a passkey?
Passkeys are currently optional for your Experian member account. You are free to continue using your password or phone-based login if you prefer.
Sign in to your account and visit the Your Account page. From there, go to Account Information and switch on 2-step verification.
There are a few ways you can find your SSN. Look for your Social Security number on tax documents and bank or financial records. If necessary, you can request a new Social Security card online.
